Surviving carnaval · Small talk · / 15 02 2005 - 19:30

Phew, i survived carnaval !!!!

Carnaval started on a friday and lasted untill tuesday. During that time, most activities were set on a hold.

Here`s how my day looked like: around 6 at night going out, starting drinking, eating and dancing. Of course the ladies were included in the activities lol. Went to bed about 7 – 8 in the morning, woke up in the afternoon, took a swim to get a clear head and prepared myself for another heavy night out. This went on for 5 days straight on …..

The only downside was that my cell phone was stolen but hey, i was thinking of being another one anyway.

A tiresome week · Small talk · / 1 02 2005 - 19:58

I`m sorry i didn`t write some blabber the last week but i have been busy as hell.

I`ve been spending my time with a nice brazilian model and as you can imagine, getting behind a pc was the last thing on my mind lol.

And now, carnaval is coming up: a week of partying, drinking, .....

But i´ll save the details for a later post.

a nice brasilian sunday · Small talk · / 19 01 2005 - 18:53

Last sunday i spend the day in the mountains. Me and a bunch of friends headed to a nice lake, way up in the mountains. We had a cooler filled with beer and about 30 pounds of meat to go along.

When we arrived we made ourself a nice BBQ and around 11 in the morning i was already stuffing myself with spare ribs and beer.

Naturally, i couldn`t resist the lake and had a nice swim.

Came 3 in the afternoon, i was snoozing away in the hot sun.

Oh man, what a life !!!!

an interesting idea · Small talk · / 13 01 2005 - 17:51

Recently i picked up an interesting idea while enjoying my stay in Brasil. I`m thinking of setting up a company here that involves the web. At the moment i´m still exploring the biz`opportunities but if my idea turns out correct i might be moving over.

But, as i said, i`m still exploring things ( and not only the local beauties lol).

Some greetings from Brasil · Small talk · / 7 01 2005 - 19:21

At the moment of this writing i´m sitting in a cyber-pub in Brasil. Up until now i have been far to busy to check things out here: the local beauties and such. I passed the transgression from 2004 to 2005 in a huge open air yacht and tennis club. There were about aprox. 5000 peeps going nuts on the samba tones. I managed to get home at 8,30 in the morning lol.

So far, the trip is a huge success!

Back · Small talk · / 19 12 2004 - 01:28

After some time of inactivity, i found some time to post again. As my holliday is approaching, i have been so busy working 24/7 that i didn’t had the time to post something here.

On top of that the keyboard of my laptop crashed on me, so now i’m using an external one, which i “borrowed” from work. I use a Dell laptop, meaning i have to let the thing pick up by UPS and normally i would get it back in a week or so. But as x-mass and new year is arriving, that will probably be sometime in january, when i’m in Brasil for 2 months. So i decided to wait untill i’m back.

Meanwhile i’m preparing for my 2-months journey: new passport, international drivers’ licence,..... and clearing out my desk of all those “so urgent” files.

On the other hand, i just restarted on a new template to put up on my site, so i hope this week i’ll be all set to leave.

Gravatar mania · Design · / 1 12 2004 - 23:16

It seems those gravatars, provided by gravatar.com are increasingly getting more and more popular. After installing my new guestbook, i decided to go along with the mass (not my usual thing to do) and implement them on my guestbook.

For those who don’t know what gravatars are: a gravatar, or globally recognized avatar, is an 80×80 pixel image that follows you from weblog to weblog appearing beside your name when you comment on gravatar enabled sites. They help identify your posts.

But they are not only for weblogs. You can use them on any site, whether it be a weblog or not. Existing web forums, mailing list archives… can use gravatars.

The way it works is that the images are stored in a kind of dictionary and associated with your email address. Each time you leave a comment on a site and provide your email address, the site can use your email address to look up your avatar. Since the dictionary is available to anyone, a single image can represent you across many different sites. That is if they are gravatar enabled.

But one of the coolest things about the concept is that they are given ratings. Every image is manually given a rating of G, PG, R, or X . If you have submitted an avatar that contains nudity, it will be given an R rating. If you leave a comment on a kid-friendly weblog that has chosen to only show avatars with a G rating, your avatar will either not show up at all, or will be replaced with a default avatar of the weblog owner’s choosing.

I haven’t implemented them on my blog because i use Textpattern and in order to get avatars to work, i needed to hack Textpattern. Something i’m reluctant to do because of updates to Textpattern. But there are plugins for several popular blogs.

Ah, something spanking new!!! · CSS · Design / 29 11 2004 - 21:42

Yesterday i installed a neat php script which produces a spanking new guestbook. The script was delevoped by my awesome friend and partner in design fiddling Dude.

We managed to get it implemented on my site and i must confess: it’s a beauty!!

Here are some features it has:

  1. Server side form validation.
  2. PHP live request for previewing comments formatted with Textile.
  3. Gravatar.
  4. Alternating comment classes (idea inspired by yours truly).
  5. Automatic smileys.
  6. E-mail notification.
  7. Clean valid XHTML.

The whole thing is php created, so the only structural stuff you have is the one needed for your page.

I still need to tweak the CSS a bit but that’s just some minor stuff.

I say: thumbs up Dude!!!!!

Something new to play with · Design · / 21 11 2004 - 23:42

I got myself a new plaything: Macromedia Captivate.

Macromedia Captivate is the latest version of RoboDemo. It’s usefull if you want to write tutorials and show a live demonstration.

Here’s a brief “what is it”:
picture of captivate logo

Macromedia Captivate allows you to effortlessly record any application and enhance the recording with text, animations, audio, and interactivity to create sophisticated training simulations and product demonstrations. You can create simulations in minutes, without any programming skills.

So, in the next couple of days i’ll probably put an example up here, showing some simple thing in Fireworks.
